Anti-Aging Tips for all Ages

anti aging tips

I have been in the beauty and skincare industry for over 13 years as an esthetician and makeup artist. Here are my tips for how to protect your skin at all ages.

What does an Anti-aging skincare routine look like?

Sun Protection

The most valuable solution is to stay out of the Sun. The Sun is the #1 thing that damages our skin. (And the damage doesn’t show up for 5-10 years after the damage has been done!)

If you cannot stay out of the Sun, hats, sunglasses, and clothing that is UV protected is the next best thing, with a sunblock of 50.

  • Topical Creams

  • You can use over-the-counter or prescription creams to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, anti-aging products might contain ingredients like retinol, alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHA and BHA), and vitamins A and C. Such ingredients help in getting rid of dead cells, and they boost cell regeneration, which makes your skin smooth.

  • Laser Treatments

  • Some laser treatments stimulate the natural production of new skin cells and collagen. Therefore, some people notice a reduction in age spots, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines following this treatment. Consult your dermatologist to know how many treatments you’ll need before seeing results.

  • Dermal Fillers:

  • Overall facial volume can decrease with the loss of collagen that comes with age, and dermal fillers can help restore this volume. Dermatologists best know the treatments to fill wrinkles around the mouth, reduce eye wrinkles, and increase cheek volume. Dermal fillers usually last between six months and a year.

  • Microdermabrasion:

  • This procedure is potentially excellent for wrinkle treatment and to address melasma, age spots, and sun damage. In this treatment, your dermatologist will use an instrument to spray fine particles of a chemical substance onto your skin, which will gently remove the outer layer of the skin. This encourages the skin to regenerate with new cells and fade some signs of aging.

In your 20s, Prevention is Key.

Beginning in your twenties, some simple things affect how you look today and how you will look in your future. Stay out of the Sun, use sunscreen, start using quality skincare, and get skin treatments.

Skin starts showing aging in your 30s

In your 30s, you might start showing irregular pigmentation or broken blood vessels. This is especially true if you have a hectic life or spend long hours in the Sun. This is where going to a cosmetic derm for anti-aging treatments will really benefit. Maintaining the quality of the skin with quality skincare is also vital.

Your 40’s are a time for cosmetic treatments.

Fine lines, poor texture, and other signs of aging, which begin to show in the 30s, become more pronounced in the 40s. Start going to the cosmetic derm for treatments like fr axel (for sunspots and uneven skin due to sun damage. Staying out of the Sun is mandatory.

    Look young in your 50’s

Aside from Botox and fillers (used in moderation), I recommend you get Fraxel once a year to improve the tone and texture of the skin. Also, visit a cosmetic derm to see what else you should do to maintain the skin.

I hope I have covered all the essential anti-aging practices for all age groups. But, remember, it’s not just what you apply to your skin - it’s also about eating healthy, sleeping well, and exercising regularly.
